Note on Surveillance for ISO & Other Compliance Certification
Surveillance in ISO certification refers to the periodic monitoring and evaluation of an organization’s management system by the certification body to ensure continued compliance with the applicable ISO & other compliance standards
Purpose of Surveillance Audits
-Ensure that the certified management system is being properly maintained and implemented.
Identify areas for improvement and ensure continual improvement.
Verify that nonconformities from previous audits have been effectively addressed.
Confirm that the organization remains compliant with the requirements of the ISO & other compliance standard.
Frequency of Surveillance Audits
Conducted at least once a year during the 3-year certification cycle.
Two surveillance audits typically occur between the initial certification and recertification.
Scope of Surveillance
Surveillance audits do not cover the full scope like the initial certification audit. Instead, they:
Focus on key processes, management review, internal audits, and corrective actions.
Cover areas affected by changes in the organization (structure, processes, products/services).
May include sampling of other areas over time to ensure ongoing system effectiveness.
